In our web site creation process there are five distinct stages:

The first step in designing a web site is to find the core concept and purpose for your site. We are seeking to know the answers to questions such as: What is the web site supposed to do? Who are the target audience for the site? How big does the site need to be? We can then set out broad but clear goals that guide us and give us a clear vision of what you need to be accomplished.

In our second stage we map out the site, using rough sketches, drawings and diagrams to give us a fundamental blueprint for your site. This tells us how each of the areas of the web site fit and function together, what common elements there will be throughout the design, and what internet technologies we are going to need to bring together to make it all work.

With our plan solidly in place we can start to create the visual look and feel of your new site, experimenting with colors, fonts, graphics, types of navigational menus, animations and all the other elements that give a site its unique feel and style. In this stage we like to work very closely with our clients to give you a website that most accurately reflects your needs and desires.

With both the plan and the artwork ready we can now put together a full working draft of the site. This is the hard coding, graphical creation, search engine optimization and linking it all together. Even at this stage, as the whole project comes together, clients often feel the need to make design and concept changes as the site grows from idea to reality and we encourage that.

With the full draft in place we work with you to thoroughly test and proof the site before it goes live and is launched upon the public. We have a minimum of three individuals hard test the design, checking for any minor flaws, bugs or lacks of clarity or consistency. When everyone is satisfied it is time for the design to take flight out onto the World Wide Web.

The best way to start is to make a list of all the things you want your web site to do. Answers may include "telling people how to contact us or find us", "letting people buy our product online" or "letting people know important information that is regularly updated".
Once you know what you want your site to do, write down your ideal site visitor. This defines your "core demographic", the group of people you want to reach and appeal to. A site aimed at children will differ greatly from a site aimed at business professionals.
A good idea is to make a list of web sites you enjoy visiting and find eye-catching and user friendly. There is nothing wrong with being inspired by the competition.
Lastly, you should decide on your budget. How much can you, or should you spend to put yourself or your organization online. |
